Ski The World

European Haute Route     7 Day
Chamonix to Zermatt

This is our 32nd year leading the most sought-after, classic, high-mountain ski tour in the world! From Mt. Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses we tour the glaciers, climb the cols, and ski down to the villages, arriving at the fabulous Matterhorn and Zermatt.

Although this tour offers the luxury of comfortable mountain huts, it is a rigorous trip demanding stamina for the uphills and proficient skiing skills for the long off-piste downhills. With bad-weather contingency plans, we offer this fantastic ski adventure as one that always results in a good time.

Advanced skiing ability, previous ski touring experience in high alpine terrain and Very Good to Excellent physical condition are required. The skills covered on our Tahoe Backcountry Ski Tours & Ski Mountaineering Techniques or equivalent skills are necessary prerequisites for this trip.

In addition to professional ski guiding by experienced Internationally Certified Ski Guides, we provide full logistical support for the duration of the Haute Route ski tour such as transportation and luggage transfer from the beginnning of the tour to the end.

Itinerary:
Day 0:
Evening meeting and prep for next days departure.

Day 1:
The classic start for the Haute Route is to ski the Valle Blanche from the summit of the Agui du Midi, over 12 miles and 9,000 vertical feet down to Chamonix. This day will also go over skills needed for the Haute Route.

Day 2:
Leave Chamonix and ascend the Grand Montet by gondola. From the top, we will ski down and cross the Argentière Glacier and skin up the Col de Chardonnet and Fenetre de Salina and take in the spectacular views before skiing to the Trient Hut.

Day 3:
This day sports a descent starting in the high mountains and finishing on the Rhone valley floor via Champex. Transportation will be provided to Verbier with the day ending at the Mt. Fort Hut.

Day 4:
An ascent of Rosablanche will be our high point for this day followed by a marvelous alpine descent of this snow and glacier clad mountain, finishing at the Dix hut.

Day 5:
The climb to the top of the Pigne d'Arolla provides splendid views and leaves us, after a pleasant descent, perched at the Vignette Hut.

Day 6:
After ascending the Tête Blanche via Col Brulé we will stay the night at the Betrol hut, fantastic location.

Day 7: From the Betrol Hut to col de L’Eveque we will enjoy the thrill of our final Haute Route descent into Zermatt.
