Mt. Humphreys (13,986'), East Arête III 5.5 1 Day
The East Arête is an excellent "must do" Sierra climb and can be done in one long day. The route is long, exposed and continously interesting. The rating and difficulty depends on the variations chosen.
Cost:
$315 ea/2 people
Dates:
July 17, 2017 (Mon)
Aug 12, 2017 (Sat) |
The Approach:
From the trailhead, we head west from the end of the road and choose our start; either from the notch between "Peaklet" and Mt. Humphreys (12,241') or from the chute that climbs directly to the base of the final ridge.
The Climb:
The route follows continuously interesting, steep and exposed ridge climbing with many sections of short pitch belayed climbing as well as some regular length 5th class pitches to the summit.
The Descent:
From the summit, we rappell the final tower then down climb the East Arête to the prominent notch. From here, we descend a steep scree gulley into the cirque of Peak 13,112' and we follow this drainage back to the trailhead.
Preparation:
At least one day of acclimatization is recommended before the climb.
