Mt. Tom (13,652') 2 Day
This classic ascent of Eldeberry Canyon is considered by many as one of the best skis in the Sierra. From Hwy 395, the escarpment of over 8,000 vertical feet puts this huge peak into Himalayan proportions.
Starting Point:
The trailhead (6,300'), located at the base of the mountain is reached from Pine Creek Road off Hwy 395, north of Bishop.
The Route:
We climb into the canyon and follow it to about 10,800' to our best camp site. We often leave our skis at the base of the headwall at about 11,200' and climb to the North Ridge and to the summit. Even without skiing the steep headwall, we ski over 4,000' back down Eldeberry Canyon.
