Intro Sierra Climber
1 Day
Donner Peak, Northwest Ridge Class 3-4
This is a great 1-day introduction to mountaineering. It addresses the skills to climb Sierra summits that are harder than the simple "walk up" routes. You'll learn to plan and prepare for a mountain climb, travel in class 2-3 off-trail and scrambling terrain as well as receive an introduction to class 4 climbing.
We'll also practice a simple rappel. These are all common skills often needed to summit Sierra peaks. This instructional day climbs the Northwest Ridge of Donner Peak and is packed with great information to help you move from a
summit hiker to becoming a mountaineer
.
Skills covered will include:
Climb planning and preparation
Choosing appropriate clothing layers and footwear
Traveling in off-trail terrain (class 2)
Climbing class 3 rock, using the rope when neccessary
