What a Winter!
It was back to normal, like the good old ASI days. We had several Huge storms, long strings of powder days, then plenty of California sunshine in between. Overall, a great season with over 125% of normal as of the March 1 snow totals.
Spring in the High Sierra & Mt. Shasta
Spring is skiing's second season in California!
An abundant snowpack of well consolidated snow, warm day-time tempuratures, yet freezing night-time temps creating the perfect equilibrium to produce the legendary corn snow skiing at the higher elevations...the snow that makes us all ski like heros.
There is nothing like longer, extended tours in the high country with long days, short tent time at night, just enough for a great night's sleep and a great ski adventure in the incredible High Sierra in spring, on skis!
These trips are like time capsules. They make time stand still, providing memories for a lifetime!
Put on your shorts on those nice warm spring days, but come back for one more great ski in the high country. You'll be glad you did.
Ski The Sierra High Route
The incredible Trans-Sierra ski route crossing the magnificent "Range of Light".
With today's great gear, this route is now much more than just a great ski backpacking trip. We provide lots of great skiing options along the way. These optional side-trips are sometimes from camp and sometimes en-route where we can drop packs, grab snow safety gear and ski the best snow. Or, if you choose to sit one out, we'll dig a comfortable mountain lounger in the snow and you can work on your golden California tan.
ASI Senior Guides, Peter Leh and Geoff Clarke have put together incredible variations in both directions, at times skiing as much as 21,000 vertical feet along the route when the interest is there.
When you ski the High Route with ASI, the quality of experience is based on 28 years of guiding the route with 44 crossings. Come join us for an incredible ski adventure of a lifetime!

Recent Programs
Mt. Shasta, Casaval Ridge
Logan Talbot and team  ascended Mt. Shasta in winter. Logan lead a group to a successful winter ascent of the Casaval Ridge Route over the President's Day weekend. The road to Bunny Flat just got plowed in time to give them access to the trailhead at the start of the climb.
They climbed to 10,800' for their high camp. After setting up their Black Diamond Guiding Light tent , the team of 3 hung their Bivy stove, brewed-up and went to sleep early. Very early in the morning with a pre-dawn start, they climbed the spectacular ridge and summitted by late morning and returned back to highcamp for a second night before descending the third morning. Congratulations to them for a successful and safe ascent!

AMGA Contract Ski Guide Course
Bela Vadasz and Howie Schwartz, the two AMGA Ski Program Coordinators  teamed up to produce a super high-level 12-day course to train professional ski guides. This course, the first step in the AMGA Ski Mountaineering Guide certification process, began in the Tahoe area. It then moved to the Mammoth area on the East Side of the Sierra to a link-up of skyline peaks and ski descents near Bishop in the high country.
It was a very successful program that ran full with 10  aspiring guides receiving state-of-the-art AMGA Guide Training. Several of the candidates will continue on to the Ski Mountaineering Guide Course and aspirant exam then, after more training and practice, will go on to their AMGA Ski Mountaineering Guide Certification Exam. Aspiring guides should look forward to next year's course.
